DERBY - William M. "Bill" Sontag Sr., 93, of Derby, died April 22, 2000. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Derby. Smith Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. A memorial has been established with the First Presbyterian Church. Sontag was born March 9, 1907, on a farm near Latham, to Theodosia M. (Thompson) and Louis S. Sontag. He attended a one-room school in Latham and graduated from Pittsburg State Teachers College. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army and attained the rank of master sergeant. He served four years in China and India. Sontag was a Midwestern Stainless Steel Cookware Co. franchise owner and a cattle rancher. Survivors include two sons, David Sontag, Wichita, and William Sontag Jr., Derby; four daughters, Greta Sontag, Cripple Creek, Colo., Theresa Sontag and Stephanie Haney, both of Derby, and Charlotte Strouse, Dallas; and nine grandchildren.
