He was an educator, coach and counselor for 32 years. He had taught high school and middle school for Pike Twp. Metropolitan School Corp., retiring in 1989. Prior to that, he had taught at Arlington H.S., Indiana Boys School and Belzer Middle School. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951-53. He was a 44 year member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Pike Twp. Lions Club (Past President); National Education Association, Indiana State Teachers Assoc., Greyhound Club of University of Indianapolis; and the American Legion. He received a bachelor's degree from the University of Indianapolis and a Masters degree from Butler University.
