Port Huron--Andrew A. Zimmer, 86, died Tuesday, March 9, 1993, in Port Huron Hospital after a long illness.
He was born Sept. 22, 1906, in St. Clair and was a lifelong area resident. He married Marie L. Herring Renehan Nov 5, 1960, in Port Huron.
Mr. Zimmer operated Andy's Service at the intersection of Gratiot Avenue and Garfield Street for 42 years prior to his retirement in 1971. After retiring from the service station he was employed at Beard Campbell Co. until ill health forced him to stop working. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church in Port Huron He was a longtime area bowler and sponsor of many teams in area leagues. He loved bowling, enjoyed gardening and took pride in landscaping his home. He was also an avid card player.
He is survived by his wife, Marie L. of Port Huron; a son and daughter-in-law, John P. and Patricia Renehan of Goodells; granddaughter, Eden Hall of Goodells; two granddaughters and their husbands, Leslie and Myron Dobson of Kimball Township and Jennifer and Tracy Atkinson of Port Huron; great-grandchildren, Brian, Steven, John, Nicholas, Charles and Marie; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ted and Dorothy Zimmer of Royal Oak, Bob and Florence Tomes of Port Huron, Wilson and Wanda Herring of Mississippi and Don and JoAnne Burgett of Marysville; a brother, Paul Zimmer of St. Clair; a sister and brother-in-law, Freda and Walter Carlson of Ferndale; and several nieces and nephews.
Services are 10 a.m. Friday in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Port Huron. the Rev. Frank r. Reiss, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Visiting is 7 to 9 pm. today and 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the Karrer-Simpson-Crawford Funeral Home. A Scripture service is 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
