Son of the late Owen Earl Bird and Nellie Bryan Bird, Mr Bird was employed by the U S Army Corps of Engineers. He was an active and faithful member of Fifth Avenue Baptist Church, Huntington, where he was chairman of the Missions and Ministry Commission and was a member of the Homebuilders Sunday School Class.

He was a graduate of Huntington East High School and Marshall University, where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. Mr Bird was a licensed Civil Engineer and was a member of the Society of Professional Engineers. He was also a veteran of the U S Army.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda Gay Hensley Bird; three daughters and sons-in-law, Rebecca D and Capt Brian Schrass of Columbus, Miss; Susan L and Blair Barbour of Huntsville, Ala; and Allyson and Mitchell Goodman of Lynchburg, Va; one son and daughter-in-law, Darrin L and Christine Bird of Huntington; six grandchildren, Jenna Elyse Barbour, Brett Allen Barbour, Scott Adam Barbour, Danielle Kay Goodman, and Drew Mitchell; and his step-mother, Lora Perry Allen Bird.

The funeral service was held at Fifth Avenue Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev Dr R F Smith.
