John T Smith, mustered out of Rushville, Schuyler Co., Illinois on May 24, 1861. He was in Co. G, 16th Illinois Infantry. He is listed in the 1860 census as the son of Abraham Smith of Schuyler Co., Illinois. He married Mildred Anna Clark(e) on December 21 1869 at Eureka, Woodford Co., Illinois. In the 1880 census he is in Perry, Pike Co., Illinois; occupation minister. He settled in Otoe Co., Nebraska by 1888; where is youngest son Bert Augustus Smith was born. His only daughter, Mary Blanche Smith married in Otoe Co., Nebraska in 1896. In the 1900 census he is living in Fourmile Twp., Otoe Co., Nebraska with all three of his sons. He is still living in Fourmile Twp. in 1910 with his wife. Since they are buried in Kenesaw, I assume they came to live with there only daughter Mary Blanche (Smith) Latta and died. They were the parents of one daughter and three sons.

I have not been able to verify the middle name Taylor. There is a John Taylor Smith who died in Illinois, who had a son Frederick. The obituary for their oldest son Austin Mansfield Smith states that he was born Rushville, Schuyler Co., Illinois, which along with his fathers military record confirms John T. as the son of Abraham.
