Mrs. G. A. Williams, Former Resident, Dies in Chicago

Mrs. George A. Williams, 78, a former Fort Dodge resident, died at her home in Chicago, IL, Saturday evening after a lengthy illness. The body is being returned to Fort Dodge for final rites and burial and will arrive early Tuesday. Friends may call at the Lauferweiler funeral home after 10 a. m. Tuesday. Funeral services are to be held Wednesday morning at 8:30 a. m. in the funeral home and 9 o'clock at Sacred Heart church. The Rev. C. P. Sweeney, pastor, will officiate and burial will be in Corpus Christi cemetery. Rosary rites will be held at 8 o'clock Tuesday evening in the funeral home. Mrs. Williams, born on March 31, 1879 at Plainfield, Iowa, was the former Margaret Bowen, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Philip Bowen.

The 1880, 1900 US census and her obituary indicate that Margaret Bowen was born about 1880 (31 Mar 1879). Her marriage record, death certificate and gravestone and several later censuses indicate she was born about 1887 (March 31).

Margaret Bowen, age 26, was married on November 12, 1913, to George A. Williams, age 34 at the Sacred Heart Church in Fort Dodge, Iowa. George Williams was the son of John and Ida (Howell) Williams of Lafayette, Illinois. The marriage was witnessed by James McIntyre and Mary Bowen. James McIntyre is the husband of Martha (Bowen) McIntyre. Martha and Mary Bowen are sisters of the bride.

Mr. and Mrs. Williams resided in Fort Dodge for a number of years, later moving to Des Moines, Milwaukee and to Chicago. The 1940 US census shows George Williams (64) Margaret Williams (54) and son Bernard Williams (25) living in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Surviving Mrs. Williams are her husband, a son, Bernard Williams of Chicago; and a sister, Mrs. Martha McIntyre of Fort Dodge. Several nieces and nephews also survive her. Her parents, four sisters and three brothers, Mrs. George Dillon, Miss Alice Bowen, Miss Mary Bowen, Mrs. Edward A. Taylor, Daniel Bowen, William Bowen and Philip H. Bowen, preceded her in death.
