Florence M. Juel, 93, of St. Paul, died Friday, Sept. 10, 2010, at the Heritage Living Center in St. Paul.

Florence was born on Jan. 10, 1917, at Farwell, the daughter of William and Mary (Kalkowski) Calvin.

She was united in marriage to Clifford G. Juel on Jan. 21, 1935, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Farwell. He preceded her in death on Jan. 9, 1969.

Florence is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Betty and James "Jim" Horky of St. Paul; grandchildren and spouses, Deb and Bob Bosak of Kansas City, MO, Mike and Melanie Horky of St. Paul and Monica and Roger Williams of St. Paul; six great-grandchildren and spouses, Trevor Bosak, Jacob Bosak, LCpl. Tyler and Shanean Nealon, Ashley Nealon, Dana and Josh Comeau and Kalie Horky; and one great-great-granddaughter, Jocelyn Comeau; and several nieces and nephews.

Florence grew up in Grand Island and in Farwell. She graduated from Farwell High School in 1934.

Florence and Clifford first lived in several cities in Nebraska and in Los Angeles, Calif. In 1950, they settled on a farm northwest of Farwell.

After Clifford's death in 1969, she moved into Farwell for several years until she bought a home in St. Paul.

She worked for many years at the Cornhusker Army Ammunitions Plant in Grand Island. She also worked for Bartle's Store in St. Paul, where she enjoyed meeting and visiting with many people from the area.

Her home was destroyed by a tornado in 1984 and after many weeks of indecision, she rebuilt her home in the same location, where she lived until 2006, when she moved to Matelyn Retirement Community in St. Paul for about one year before moving to Heritage Living Center.

She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and its Council of Catholic Women. She was also a former member of Carl Mogensen American Legion Auxiliary of St. Paul.

Florence enjoyed her flower and vegetable gardens and spent many hours out in her yard. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, and embroidering during the winter months. She also loved to travel. But most of all she loved her family: her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-granddaughter, and was always worrying and praying for them and loved to attend their programs and sporting events.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; brothers and spouses, Clarence and Mitzi Calvin, Clayton and Georgia Calvin and Wilbert and Charlene Calvin, and an infant brother, Fredrich Calvin; her in-laws, John and Jennie Juel; and brothers-in-law and spouses, Eddie and Thora Juel and Jim and Isabelle Juel.
