Myrtle Mullins, 92, Atchison, died Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012 at the Atchison Hospital.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 1, 2012, at St. Benedict's Church with Rev. Gerard Senecal, OSB as celebrant. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Atchison. A parish rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012 in the chapel of Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with visitation following until 8:30 p.m. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Benedict's Church, St. Jude's Children's Hospital or the Atchison Library and may be left in care of the funeral home. Myrtle was born Feb. 27, 1919 in Fort Scott, the daughter of Raymond L. and Carrie Beattie Baumann. She attended elementary school in rural Atchison County, later graduating from Atchison High School in 1937. She then attended Sarchon Hailey Secretarial School in Kansas City, Mo., graduating in 1938.

She and James H. Mullins Jr. were united in marriage on Nov. 15, 1939, at Immaculate Conception Church in Leavenworth.

Following her marriage she joined her husband in the family owned Mullins Bros. Hardware Company as a clerk and co-owner of the business where she served along his side until her retirment in 1979.

Myrtle was a member of St. Benedict's Church, the Altar Society and Legion of Mary of the church, a member of Atchison Hospital Auxiliary, Junior Guild, Red Hat Society and the Monday Penny Poker Club of Atchison. She enjoyed playing bridge, golfing, sewing, quilting, gardening, was an accomplished folk artist and traveled extensively to every state in the union, most of Europe and Ecuador.

She is survived by her husband of 72 years of marriage, James H. "Jim" Mullins Jr., of the couples home, three sons, James (Lynn) Mullins, Helena, Mont., Dan (Sally) Mullins, Blaine, Minn., Terry (Margaret) Mullins, New River, Ariz., four daughters, Jelene (Larry) Widlowski, Fort Myers, Fla., Cheryl (Paul) Somers, Creston, Iowa, Marian Mullins, Pomona, Mikey (Jerry) Stafford, Atchison, 21 grandchildren and24 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, Kathy Maness and Mary Pat Mullins, a sister, Lucille Otte, and brothers Loren, Ivan, Kenneth, and Verle Baumann.
