He married Rachel Pyle and fathered Walter David (b. 04/05/82) and Carrie E. (b. 03/15/84 - married Felix S. Bentzel). In 1880, he lived in Fawn Township where he died from "uremic poison, diffused nephritis" caused by "chronic interstitial nephritis" with "mitral regurgitation" a contributing factor.
