St. Clair - Phyllis Marguerite Kaufman, age 87, of St. Clair, passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2006.
She was born November 21, 1918 in Columbus Twp. to Walter and Alma Teltow Sass.
On September 28, 1940, Phyllis married William Kaufman in St. Peter's Lutheran Church, St. Clair by the Rev. C. W. Lenz.
Mrs. Kaufman attended St. Clair High School, graduating in 1937. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Peters and was organist for 46 years and choir director for 43 years. She was a volunteer at River District Hospital for 27 years.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Paul R. and Patricia Kaufman of St. Paul, Minnesota; grandsons Hayes William and Grant Howard Kaufman of St. Paul, Minnesota; brother, Howard (Andrea) Sass of Chicago; sister-in-law, Patricia Sass of St. Clair; brother-in-law, Ralph Zacharias of Illinois; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, William in 2001; daughter, Carolyn Alma Kaufman in 1988; sisters, Beatrice Zacharias and Lucille Zacharias; brother, Shirley Walter Sass; and sister-in-law, Margaret Sass.
Funeral services will be 11 a.. Saturday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Peters, Pastor MaGinn will officiate. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, St. Clair.
Visiting hours are 7 to 9 P.M. Thursday and 2 to 9 P.M. Friday at Young Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, China Twp. and Saturday from 10 to 11 A.M. at the church.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or St. John' s River District Hospital Ladie Auxiliary.
