Harold Mark Nokes, 73, retired manager of planning and marketing analysis of the Phillips Petroleum Company Transportation Department, died at 8:51 p.m. on Saturday in the Emergency Room of the Jane Phillips Memorial Medical Center where he was taken following a sudden illness. Mr. Nokes had been in ill health for the past four months.
Full military rites will be accorded Mr. Nokes by the James H. Teel American Legion Post No. 105. Committal prayers and interment will be directed in the Memorial Park Cemetery by the Arnold Moore Funeral Service.
Mr. Nokes was a native of Missouri born on January 13, 1910 in Saint Joseph. He was the son of the late Alice Loretta McNamara Nokes and Oscar Elbert Nokes. He began his elementary education in Saint Joseph, MO, and when he moved with his family members to Webb City, MO, he completed his junior and senior high school and was graduated with the senior class of 1927 from Webb City High School. He was a student at the University of Missouri, Columbia, MO. In 1929 Mr. Nokes moved to Bartlesville and was employed for two years with the Indian Territory Illuminating Oil Company. In 1931 he was employed by the Phillips Petroleum Company in the comptroller department for 19 years. He became the marketing planning manager and headed the analysis division of the sales department for the Phillips Petroleum Company in 1950. Following 25 years with the sales marketing department he was retired in 1975 following 44 years of service connection with the local company. Mr. Nokes was married in Chicago, IL on Oct 10, 1951 to the former Miss Julia Cecelia Stadler and she survives him of the home here.
During WWII, Mr. Nokes was enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and following his honorable discharge he returned to Bartlesville with his employment with the Phillips Petroleum Company here.
A memorial in remembrance of Mr. Nokes has been established with the Jane Phillips Memorial Medical Center and friends who care to remember him in this way may send their gifts to Mr. Randall Fale, administrator, 3500 S.E. Frank Phillips Blvd, Bartlesville, OK 74003.
Mr. Nokes will lie in state in the Drawing Rooms of the Arnold Moore Funeral Residence where friends may call for visitation until he is removed to the Memorial Park for final rites.
Surviving Mr. Nokes in addition to his wife, Mrs. Julia C. (Stadler) Nokes, 217 S.E. 13th, Bartlesville; are one sister, Mrs. Mildred Amesbury, Excelsior, MN, one niece, Mrs. Robert (Mary) Stabler, NJ; two nephews, Stephen Ambesbury and William Ambesbury, both of Reno, NV.
