Elwood, Indiana, Public Library, Elwood Call-Leader, Fri, 18 Nov 1921, obituary: "DIPHTHERIA CASE FATAL. Mrs. Flora Richwine Dies at Home Thursday Afternoon.
Mrs. Flora Alice Richwine, 34, wife of Everett Richwine, died at her home at 1215 South N Street, Thursday afternoon, of diphtheria, after an illness of a week. The malignancy of the ailment was not discovered until yesterday when quarantine restrictions were placed on the home.
Mrs. Richwine is survived by the husband and seven children; Lela 16, Charles 14, Wilbur 11, Howard 8, Ruth 6, Louise 4, and Margaret, aged two years. None of the children have evidenced symptoms of the disease and it is hoped that there will be no further cases.
Mrs. Richwine was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marion Danforth and was born May 7, 1887 and the mother also survives. The family resided in the Perkinsville community for many years before coming to Elwood and the deceased was held in the highest esteem there and beloved by all who enjoyed her acquaintance after she came to Elwood to make her home.
On account of the nature of the ailment causing death the funeral services which will be conducted at the home Saturday morning at 10 o'clock by Rev. E. S. DeMiller, pastor of the Christian church, will be private. The burial will be in the Neese cemetery, near Perkinsville.
Friends are informed that since the health safeguards prevent admission to the home at the funeral, the casket will be placed at a front window where those who knew and loved this good woman will be permitted to take a last look at the dear face before it is conveyed to its last resting place."
