Rev. Roy Duvall, 73 , 936 S. Main Ave., a prominent Methodist minister in this area for several decades, died Tuesday at Moses Taylor Hospital after an illness. Born in Hillburn, N.Y., son of the late Edward and Elizabeth Herbert DuVall, he was a ministerial member of the Wyoming Conference since 1939 and graduated from Cornell University and Westminster Theological Seminary. He began his first pastorate in Cassville, Pa. and before coming to the Wyoming Conference served at Friendship United Methodist Church, Finley, N.J. .He has also served at Daleville, Wyalusing and Bethany. Prior to coming to Embury United Methodist Church in 1965 he served 14 years as pastor of the dual charge St. Paul's Church, South Scranton, and Bradley Memorial, Throop-Dickson City. While at Bradley, Rev. DuVall assisted in the construction of a new house of worship, the previous church having been acquired through right-of-way proceedings by the Pennsylvania Department of Highways. A WW II veteran who served overseas during 1945 '46, he attained the rank of captain and was awarded the Bronze Star. While at Embury Church, he also took part In an extensive program of renovations and improvements in excess of $40,000. He completed his services at Embury Church in May, 196S. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. David Emmanuel, Stanfordvilie, N.Y.; a son, William H. Richards, Dalton; five sisters, Mrs. Florence Gurney, Suffern, N.Y.; Mrs. Gertrude Winters, Cleveland, Ohio, Ruth Babcock, Norwich, N.Y., Mrs. Sarah Haycock, Burlington Flats, N.Y.; Mrs. Minnie May, Canajaherie, N.Y.; a brother, Francis, Earlsville, N.Y.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. . The funeral will be Friday with services at 1 p.m. at Embury United Methodist Church, with Rev. Thomas Taylor, pastor, and Rev. George F. Goodwin, district superintendent of Scranton District, United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment, Pompton Reformed Cemetery, Pompton, Lakes, N.J. Viewing, Strauch Funeral Home, 602 Birch St. , today, 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday, 2 to4, 7 to9p.m. The body will lie in state at Embury United Methodist Church, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Embury Church Building Fund or the church of one's choice.
