Bidwell--Alfred O. Grooms departed this life Nov. 22 at the home place near the Christianburg church at the age of seventy-two years. He was born in Virginia. His wife, who was formerly Miss Anna Green, preceded him in death several years ago.

He was converted about two years ago during the revival conducted by Rev. C. E. Pettit, pastor of this charge at that time, and joined the Christianburg church. Funeral services were conducted by the present pastor, Rev. Scott, who delivered an eloquent sermon.

He served as a soldier in the late civil war for three years. The pall bearers were all civil war veterans who had charge of the services at the cemetery.

He leaves to mourn their loss six children who are Arthur, of Blakesburg; Edwin, of Independence; Will, of Bidwell; Bruce, of Oklahoma; Fred, of Dudley, and Mrs. Grace French of Bidwell; one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Summerson, John, and Jas. Grooms all of Bidwell.

The attendance was quite large which demonstrated the high esteem in which he was held. Interment was made in the Chisman cemetery by the side of his wife. The heartfelt sympathy of friends and neighbors is extended to the sorrowing relatives.
