John Walter Clopton, the owner and operator of the old Decatur Ice Cream and Creamery Co for 25 years, died today at a local nursing home.
Clopton, the first president of the Decatur Kiwanis Club, was 91 years old.
He operated the ice cream firm from 1917 until 1942 when it was sold to Meadow Gold Dairies.
In addition to his work with the Kiwanis Club, Clopton was a past president of Decatur Chamber of Commerce and he was a former elder at First Presbyterian Church.
Funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Rev. Joe Walker officiating, with burial in Decatur Cemetery, Brown Service Funeral Home directing.
