Dr. William Wallace Firestone
25 Feb 1842 – 25 Jun 1904

William Wallace Firestone, the funeral was conducted by Dr. Lowry and Dr. Stauffer, and by the Wooster Lodge Knights Templars --Services were very beautiful -- music by a quartette -- short services at the grave.

The funeral services over the remains of the late Dr. W.W. Firestone were held Friday afternoon at the Firestone residence on North Market street, and were largely attended by the sorrowing friends and relatives of the beloved physician.

The floral offerings were imposing and numerous, consisting of flowers and beautiful floral pieces from different orders, and from many friends of the family.

The services were held by the representatives of the church and by the local commandery Knights of Templars.

For the church Dr. H.W. Lowry, of the First Presbyterian church, delivered a short address. The scripture lesson was read by Dr. H.D. Stauffer, pastor of St. James Episcopal church, and consisted of beautiful scriptural passages from a 39th Psalm, the 11th chapter of the Gospel according to St. John, and the 15th chapter of First Corinthians.

Dr. Lowry's address was coached in beautiful language. In it he paid a fitting tribute to the life of the deceased and referred in tender words to his life as a physician and a friend.

Music was furnished at the services by a quartet consisting of Bechtel Alcock. Ben Alcock, John Eberly, and Dr. Nold Hoelzel. The court at sang "Lead Kindly Light" and "Abide With Me."

For the Knight's Templars, the almost sublime burial service of the order was read by Emment Commander Harry E. Kartz and Prelate James B. Minter.

All of the pallbearers were past eminent commanders and were as follows: C.M. Gray, L.P. Obliger, S.H. Boyd, J.R. Zimmerman, John Stephens, Jr., and George J. Schwartz. The state organization was represented by Past Grand Commander Robert C. Hampson of Salem. Other Sir Knights from nearby towns were present with the Wooster sir knights.

The greater part of the commandery service was held at the house, except the closing hymn and benediction at the grave.
