PFC Elroy Lejeune of Hathaway who was killed in action on Jan 16 in Luxembourg, according to a telegram from the war department to his mother, Mrs. Adam Lejeune. He entered the army May 26, 1942 and would have been 26 years old next May. Surviving besides the mother are six brothers and four sisters: Mayas, Claude, Amay & Levi of Jennings, Arthur and Lawrence of Iota, Mrs. J.B. Miller, Mrs. Kenny Ardoin of Jennings, Mrs. Joseph Gillette and Mrs. Ida LeJeune of Lake Charles. Mayas served overseas in World War I and Levi served in this war but has been discharged. Prior to entering the army, Leroy worked in Lake Charles. Inducted May 26, 1942, Lejeune took his basic training at Fort. Jackson, South Carolina and went overseas in Aug 1942 and had served in Iceland, Ireland, Wales and England and then France & Luxembourg.

Final Tribute Fallen Hathaway soldier honored on Memorial Day Over 60 years later, the family of a Hathaway soldier who was killed in the Battle of the Bulge in 1945, received 12 vintage Gold Star Lapel Buttons that were supposed to be issued at the time of his death. The family of U.S. Army Pfc. Elroy LeJeune held a special Memorial Day service at St. Joseph's Catholic Church and Cemetery in Iota, the location of LeJeune's current gravesite.
