Lila Bernice Whipple passed away July 19, 2010 at her home in Elma.

Lila was born on a farm in Bowdon, North Dakota August 7, 1921 to Inga & Anton Hoff. She taught school in a country school house where she would walk to school everyday or ride a horse in the winter. It was there on the country roads where she met her husband, Harold of 62-years. They had eight children. In 1958 the family moved to Elma.

Lila is survived by her husband, Harold, children, Marilyn Keel of McCleary, Joan Whipple, Cleo Whipple, Aaron (Kristine) Whipple, Deland (Pam) Whipple, Kenny (Laurie) Whipple, David (Pauline) Whipple and Janet (Bill) Krack, all of Elma. Numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, three sisters, Ella and Mable of North Dakota and Aleta of Wisconsin and two brothers, Ernest and Alvin of North Dakota. Four brothers, Jim, Clifford, Harry and Melvin died before her.

Lila loved traveling to North Dakota a couple of times per year. She loved the outdoors, either mowing the grass, picking up branches or whatever she could find to do. She made many quilts and rugs for her kids and grandkids. Most of all she loved playing pinochle with whoever she could get to play. She also enjoyed spending time with her kids. Many times her kids would find her in the mornings sitting with a cup of coffee, reading the bible. Mom was a hard worker, busy raising her eight kids while tending to the family home. She will be remembered as a kind, loving mother & will be missed dearly by us all.

Public visitation will be from 5-6PM Sunday, July 25, 2010 at Whiteside Family Mortuary in Elma. Funeral Service will begin at 11AM Monday, July 26, 2010 also at Whiteside Family Mortuary in Elma.

Interment will be at Oddfellows Cemetery in Elma.
