Mrs. Mary E Cunningham Dies
Rites for Rutledge Woman Held Friday at Christian Church There.
Mary Elizabeth Cunningham, a resident of the Rutledge vicinity for many years, died at 9:30 o'clock Wednesday morning of last week at the home of her son, Earl Cunningham, near Rutledge. She was 74 years old.
Services were held at 2 o"clock Friday afternoon at the Rutledge Christian Church, with burial in the Pauline Cemetery at Rutledge. The Rev. V. T. Woods of Canton was in charge. Mrs. Cunningham was a member of the Rutledge Christian Church and the Rutledge Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
A daughter of William A. and Nancy J. Cox, Mrs. Cunningham was born Jan. 24, 1876 in Putnam County. The family moved to Scotland County when she was a small child and she spent the remainder of her life in Scotland and Knox Counties.
On Jan. 12, 1898, she was married to Robert S Cunningham. One son, Earl D. Cunningham, who survives, was born to them. Mr. Cunningham died in 1927 and since then Mrs. Cunningham had made her home with her son and his family on a farm near Rutledge.
Surviving Mrs. Cunningham besides her son are one brother Elza A. Cox of Oak Ridge, Tenn., two grandsons, Stanley and Dean Cunningham, of near Rutledge and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters, Bertha Cox and Mrs. Neva E. Flanagan, and two brothers, Frank L. Cox and Charles W. Cox.
