Guy Ross gay, 85, of Weeks Mills, died December 12, 1996, at Laewood Manor in Waterville after a brief illness.

Born in Machias on March 17, 1911, he was the son of Warren and Nellie (Foss) Gay.

He was married to Ellen M. Maddocks of Brooks, who died on December 26, 1971. He had lived in Weeks Mills for many years, and had worked as a mechanic for the Maine State Highway Department. He also was employed at West Plumbing and Heating and had been a foreman at Murray Machinery in Augusta in years past. For the past 25 years, he had operated Guy Gay Equipment, having developed and patented the snow plow resistant mailbox arm for rural mailboxes.

Irene Duplessis had been his longtime friend and housekeeper, making her home with him in Weeks Mills for 18 years. She now resides in Augusta. Also surviving are four sons, Harvard Gay and his wife Christine of Vassalboro, Dennis Gay and his wife Kathryn of Randolph, Neil Gay and his wife Jeanette of Weeks Mills, and Roland Gay and his wife Hilda of Weeks Mills; a daughter, Guylen Freeman and her husband Charlie of North Monmouth; two sisters-in-laws, Nina Gay of Augusta and Agnes Johnson of Machias; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. His granddaughter, Melody Gay, died in 1975. Four sisters, Mildred, Verna, Ada, and Lillian, and three brothers, Maynard, Harvard, and Elmer, all died previously. His son, Gerald Gay died in infancy and his son, Darrell Gay, died in 1952. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

Funeral services were held at 11:00am on Saturday, December 14 at the Gray and Pratt Funeral Home, Windsor Neck Road, Windsor, with the Rev. Carol Prosser officiating.

Spring interment will be at Rose Cemetery, Brooks.
If desired, the family suggests memorial gifts to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Northern New England Chapter, 114 Perimeter Road, Unit E, Nashua, NH 03063.

Rose Cemetery located on Hall Hill Road close to intersection of Rte. 7. Grave is located with other family members toward the middle of the cemetery on backside along trees.
