Following high school, she graduated from the former Gorham Normal School and taught in a one- room schoolhouse in Acton. She then taught in the Sanford school system, retiring in 1976.

She was a former Campfire Girl. She enjoyed the piano, was a great cook, loved animals, and enjoyed gardening.
