Elisabeth Schuller was born in Meschen, Transylvania (modern Moșna, Sibiu region, Romania), the daughter of Stephan Schuller and Sara Reinerth. She and her husband, George David, moved together to western Pennsylvania (after briefly stopping in Ohio where their first son was born). There, in Pittsburgh, they raised their family of six children.
