Carlton E. Pierce, 67, of 8095 Belle Road, Harborcreek, died Friday at his home. He was born on July 3, 1921, in Harborcreek, the son of the late Henry and Nettie Birch Pierce. He was an active member of Garden Heights Baptist Church in Erie, where he taught Sunday School and was a deacon of the church. He was also a member of the Pennsylvania Farmers Association and formerly owned and operated the Pierce Fruit Farm before his retirement. A veteran of World War II, he served as a lieutenant in the U. S. Air Force in the European Theater and flew 97 missions before being shot down behind enemy lines. He received the Purple Heart, the Air Medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross. He was preceded in death by a sister, Nina Pierce. Survivors include his wife, Doris Wilcox Pierce; two sons, Roy Pierce of Harborcreek and Wayne Pierce of West Hartford, CT; one daughter, Mrs. Duane (Janet) Jones of Harborcreek; and one brother, Dr. W. B Pierce of Erie. Friends may call at the William D. Elkin Furner al Home, 65 S. Lake, North East, on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at Garden Heights Baptist Church, 4224, McClelland Ave., with Rev. Edward Fuller officiating. Burial will be at North East Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Garden Heights Baptist Church or the North East Community Nurses Association, 41 W.
