MARS HILL - Robert A. Craig II, 78, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2010, after a brief battle with cancer. He was born Nov. 23, 1931, in Mars Hill, son of Robert and Thelma (Glidden) Craig. Robert grew up in Mars Hill.
A few years after graduation Robert joined the U.S. Army, and served from 1952 to 1954.
Upon his discharge, he went to work as a high-pressure boiler operator in many local potato processing plants. He enjoyed woodworking and loved music, especially playing the guitar. He was a member of American Legion William Cousins Post No. 118, as well as Old Fashioned Revival Center.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Rosalie (Rideout) Craig of Mars Hill; three sons, Robert Craig III and his wife, Starr, Stuart Craig and his wife, Cathy, and Carlton Craig and his wife, Sonya, all of Mars Hill; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind three sisters, Eleanor York of Waterville, Nina Senecal of Cana, Va., and Retta Day of Smithfield; as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Muriel Richardson.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 19, at King's Grove Cemetery, Mars Hill. (Bangor Daily News 9/17/2010)
