Son of Dr.William and Rebecca Howard;grandson of Col.John Eager Howard and grand nephew of Francis Scott Key,author of the "Star Spangled Banner".

First wife was Agnes Schley of Baltimore;daughter of Judge Schley.Married Clara Randolph in October 1860.

Father of William Key Howard,Jr and Clarence R.Howard.
