Sumner Chapman, the 4th son of Israel and Mary Kenyon Chapman, was born in Westerly, RI on 28 April 1806. He was a farmer and upon the death of his father in 1852, he inherited the family farm. On 19 November 1837, Sumner married Sarah Brightman of Westerly, daughter of Thomas. They had 10 children. Sumner Chapman died in Westerly on 10 February 1892.
