John Chapman was born 30 September 1801, in Westerly, RI, the son of Israel and Mary Kenyon Chapman. During his lifetime he was a good businessman and farmer. John was married three times: first, to Sarah Fenton, of Hartford, Connecticut; following her death, he married, second, Rhoda Ann Sisson, daughter of Thomas Sisson of Westerly; and third, he married Louisa (mnu at this time). John Chapman died in Westerly on 7 January 1877.
