Bio: Leonard was the only child of Brigadier General Samuel Emerson Opdycke and Lucy Wells (Stevens) Opdycke. Born in Ohio, the family relocated to New York City. Leonard graduated from Harvard Law School and became a partner in the firm of Bristow, Beet and Opdycke. On 12 Oct 1893 he married Edith Bell. They had two children: Leonard Jr. and Mary Ellis. He committed suicide in the families summer home at Bar Harbor at the age of 55.
