Esther and Nathan settled in Charlemont, Massachusetts directly after their marriage where all their children were born. When the youngest was just a year old, in 1816, the family moved to French Creek in Lewis Co, VA (now Upshur Co, WV). They were among the original members of the French Creek Presbyterian Church. Esther died here on July 16th, 1826 (according to church records).
Her husband Nathan remarried in 1828 to Cemantha/Samantha Phillips, the young widow of Martin Cudworth Burr. She had 2 children, Elbridge and Martin Burr with her first husband. She and Nathan Gould had eight more children: Esther, Marshall, Joseph Samuel, Cynthia Ann, Jonathan, Roxanne, Cecilia Jane, and Watson Gould.
