George H. Adkins was born in Alameda County, California on January 15, 1919, to George W. Adkins and Laura Stouder Adkins. He was their only child.

George H. Adkins enlisted in the Army in San Francisco, California on July 28, 1944 at the rank of Private. Private First Class Adkins was assigned to the 382nd Infantry of the United States Army at the time of his death. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster.

He left his parents and his wife to mourn him.
