He was born Friedrich and change the spelling of his first and last name when he arrived in the United States in 1849 with his brothers Simon and Franz. They were born in Detmold Lipp Germany.(Prussia) He owned a Grocery Store on Market Street in Beaver. He was baptized May 11, 1823. He was orginially buried in Perrysville, Pennsylvania but moved to Beaver at the time of his wife's death in 1896
His parents were Johann and Friederike Bornemier Schnittger. He married Martha in 1856 in Bristolville, Ohio.
