Obituary from the "Gazette" of Waverly, Kansas dated 25 Oct 1889:
Obituary.
Died, at his residence in Melvern, Kan., October 17, 1889, Mr. David Stoolfire. The deceased was born in Washington county, Pennsylvania, November 15, 1821, and removed to Ohio in 1845. He was married to Miss Angeline Bailey August 11, 1853. He moved to Illinois in the spring of 1858, and thence to Kansas in 1870, where he has since resided. When he was very young he made a profession of his faith in Christ uniting with the Disciple church. After coming to Kansas he united with the Presbyterian church and retained his membership with that body to the time of his death. He leaves a widow, four sons and two daughters to mourn his loss, all of whom were present at the funeral. The funeral service was conducted at the Presbyterian church of Melvern by Rev W. M. Pocock assisted by Rev. Seese of the M. E. church. Mr. Stoolfire was well known by many of the people of Waverly. He was one of the charter members of the Presbyterian church of this place, and was elected to the office of trustee at the time of its organization. Some years ago he was dismissed to unite with the Kedron church in which he was elected to the office of elder.
