He was born June 15, 1916, in California, MO, a son of Thomas Edward (Ed) Collins and Pansy Mae Williams Collins (later married Orville Bowers). James married Ida Kathryn (known as Kathryn) Simmons 1 Aug. 1936 in Kansas City, Jackson County, MO. who died December 29, 1996. He was married in August 1955 in Harrisonville, MO to Annie C. Barnes, who died Sept 30, 1990. Anne is buried along side him at the California City Cemetery.
He owned and operated J.T. Collins Landscaping in Columbia and California, MO for many years and was a member of the Protestant faith.
Survivors include: two sons, James Paul (Izola) Collins, St. Charles, MO, John Edward (Lila) Collins, Kansas City, MO; three daughters, Helen LaVerne (Fred) Fry, Independence, MO; Lois Sandra (Sandy) Walker (Terry Greenwood), Fairfax, VA, Linda Dimon (Freddie Thompkins), Raytown, MO; one brother, Melvin Collins, Mission KS; one sister, Lois Mayhugh, Grandview, MO: eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Dorothy Leora Bowers, March 1 1991; and two children in infancy, Joseph Stephen and Edna Earline; and two sisters, Helen Theener and Ruth Sperling.
Services were held Saturday at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Chapel, California, MO with the Rev. Roy Sparks officiating. Burial was in California City Cemetery.
