1st Lt. Eric Yates, 26, of Rineyville, Ky., died in the Zhari district, Kandahar province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Patty Crabb and Mildred Yates. He is survived by his parents, David and Kathy Crabb Yates of Rineyville; one brother, Nathan Yates of Rineyville and his grandparents, Herbert Crabb of Sikeston, MO and Lawrence Yates of Elizabethtown.
