William J. Abbey Long A. Pitcher Resident, Passes

Pitcher, Nov. 4--William James Abbey died at his home, Oct. 29, 1943, after serious illness of three weeks. He was born in Brookfield, Madison county, Jan. 29, 1877, the son of John and Mary Fletcher Abbey. He has lived in the town of Pitcher over 40 years and for the past 25 years he served as constable. He was well liked by everyone who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Carrie Stevens Abbey, and five children, Mrs. William Cooper of this place, Mrs. Ralph Smith of Prattsburg, Mrs. Leo Henry and Mrs. Truman Southworth of Cortland, and William J. Abbey, Jr., of this place.

The funeral service was held at Heath Funeral Home at Cincinnatus, Sunday, Rev. G. F. Crawford officiating. Burial was in Pitcher cemetery.

Out of town friends and relatives were present form Madison, Otselic, South Otselic, North Pitcher, Cortland, Homer, Prattsburg, Cincinnatus, Oxford, Union Valley, McGraw.
