Kenneth Yancy Newman Mitchell, age 78, of Ardmore, TN, died Wednesday, September 15, at his residence following a courageous ten-year battle with cancer. Funeral services were held on Friday, September 17, at Ardmore Chapel, and he was buried with full military honors in the Blanche Cemetery.

Mr. Mitchell or "Grandaddy" as he was known by many, was born on Saturday, April 2, 1932 in Cash Point, TN, to the late Jack and Velma Gatlin Mitchell of Ardmore. He was of the Methodist faith and lived most of his life in the
Ardmore area. Mr. Mitchell retired from the Coca-Cola Bottling Company in April 1995. He was a proud veteran of the Korean War serving in Austria, Germany, and Italy; and flew his American flag everyday. Mr. Mitchell was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and three sisters.

He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Nancy Forbes Mitchell. His children: Yancy Cowan Mitchell, Kenneth Troy Mitchell, and his special daughter-in-law Lisa Mitchell, all of Ardmore. Two grandchildren: Zach Mitchell of Auburn, AL, and Maggie Mitchell of Ardmore. Four sisters: Connie (Bill) Magnusson and Alice Scott, both of Ardmore; Nan (Haskel) Mealer of Elkmont; and Elizabeth Sawyer of Nashville, TN. Two brothers: Bobby (Jeri) Mitchell of Ardmore, and Richard Mitchell of Salt Lake City, Utah. His honorary grandchildren include: Aarika Boggs, Clint Carroll, Jensen Kirby, Brittany Magnusson, Matthew D. Smith, Clay Wales, and Sara Grace Wales.

Pallbearers were: Everett Bailey, Berry Cook, Nicky Johnson, Bill Magnusson, Tim Magnusson, Haskel Mealer, Mark Mitchell, and Jay Thomas.

Honorary pallbearers were: Jimmy Lewis, Johnny Lewis, Chad Scott, and Charles Thornton.
