August E. ‘Auggie' Adams, 90, of Sullivan, died 11:38 a.m. Saturday (September 18, 2010) in the Sullivan Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Rebecca Ingram officiating. Entombment will be at the Greenhill Cemetery, Sullivan. Visitation will be one hour before the funeral. Memorials are suggested to the Moultrie County Chapter of the American Cancer Society or St. John's Hospice or the Sullivan Fire and Ambulance Protection District.
Mr. Adams was born August 3, 1920 in Bethany, IL, the son of Forest and Ruth Hampton Adams. Auggie was a member of the American Miniature Horse Association, the Teamsters Union, the Sullivan First Christian Church, and retired from Caterpillar in Decatur. He was a WW II Army veteran. Auggie married Marie Miller on June 8, 1940 in St. Charles, MO, and she preceded him in death on September 19, 2003.
Survivors include his children, Loren (Deborah) Adams of Decatur and Carolyn (David) Horsman of Sullivan; sister, Coleen Miller of Sullivan; grandchildren, Kimberly Adams of Los Angeles, CA, Jeff Adams of Indianapolis, IN, Kari (Shawn) Prokes and Krystal Horsman, both of Bloomington, IL; great grandsons, Jonah and Ben Prokes and a great granddaughter Mariah Prokes, all of Bloomington, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
Auggie's greatest love was his grandchildren, great grandchildren and his dog, Shorty. He raised Shetland Ponies and miniature horses and his favorite car was the Chevy El Camino, of which over the years he owned many of them. Auggie will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
