ARVEN D. "SHORTY" HOLT, 75, of Fort Wayne, died Easter Sunday, April 8, 2007, with his family at his bedside at Parkview Hospice. Born Dec. 3, 1931, in Pumpkin Chapel, Ky., he moved to Fort Wayne in 1954 and married Gladys Conner in 1957 after meeting her at Bolen's Restaurant. He worked for Hagerman, Sheets and Lengacher Construction Companies, and Local 213. He retired in 1987 and enjoyed walking, collecting cans, feeding birds, fixing televisions, fishing and enjoying holidays with his family. He was known as "Shorty" by his neighbors and friends. He is survived by his wife, Gladys C. (Conner) Holt of Fort Wayne; daughters, Caroline (C. David) McBane of Fort Wayne, Brenda Bergman of Hoagland, Patty (James) Anderson of Columbia City and Tina (Robert) Mattes of Fort Wayne; nine grandchildren, Timmy (Nita) Bergman, Corey (Amber) Bergman, Sara Bergman, Jeffrey Anderson, Russell Anderson, Michael McBane, Alex McBane, Megan Mattes and Nicholas Mattes; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by parents, James and Viola Holt; and 7 brothers and sisters. Service is 2 p.m. Friday at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Ave. The Rev. Ron Williams officiating. Calling is from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, New Haven. Memorials to the family of Arven Holt.
