Deceased Was a Well-Known Civil Engineer and Surveyor.
James G. Tracy, a well-known civil engineer and surveyor, died at 6 o'clock yesterday morning at the home of his brother, William G. Tracy, with whom he boarded, at No. 620 James street. He had been ill about six weeks. It was not generally known that Mr. Tracy was ill, and the announcement of his death comes as a surprise to his many friends.
Mr. Tracy was born in Albany in 1837, but spent the greater part of his life in Syracuse. He was a graduate of the Troy Polytechnic Institute and during his residence here did a great deal of work for railroads. He had an office in the Sedgwick, Andrews & Kennedy Building, and made a specialty of plans, estimates, inspections, surveys and maps for legal cases. He was well known in legal circles and club circles.
The deceased was one of the organizers of the Syracuse Savings Bank in 1849 and for many years a trustee. A great deal of his time was spent in the South, where he was interested in the construction of steam railroads.
Mr. Tracy never married. He is survived by two brothers, William G. Tracy, at whose home he died, and Osgood V. Tracy of O. V. Tracy & Co.; wholesale grocers. The funeral will be held at W. G. Tracy's residence, No. 620 James street, at 4 o'clock this afternoon. Friends are invited.
