Mary was born December 4th, 1938 in St. Louis, Missouri to the late Robert and Mary Jacob. Shortly after graduating high school, Mary met her future husband, Dennis, on a blind date. They were inseparable thereafter and were married in May of 1957. They moved to Arizona in 1958 when Dennis was stationed at Fort Huachuca and, upon completing his enlistment in the U.S. Army, they moved to Yuma making it their permanent home.
Mary began her career in the Title & Escrow business with Transamerica Title in the early 1960's in their downtown office. She continued to move up within the company and was Escrow Officer of Transamerica Title when she left to start a new and locally owned Title company, Yuma Title & Trust, in November of 1978. Under her leadership, Yuma Title grew to become the leading Title Insurance company in Yuma County until she oversaw the sale of Yuma Title to Chicago Title in 1999. She remained with the company until her retirement in 2001. Mary was also honored to be Yuma's first woman in Rotary when she joined Yuma Rotary in January 1988.
Mary was always the "rock" in her family and provided counseling and advice whenever asked (and even sometimes when she wasn't). Her guidance was a great value to her children as they worked to continue running the family business Dennis had built and as they faced various personal challenges. Mary was also well known to those in the Real Estate and Title & Escrow business and remained a frequent source for consultation on complex issues involving such transactions. Her wisdom and perspectives will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Mary is survived by her son, Russell (Joy) McCloud, daughters Kim (John) Watson and Michele (Gene) Payne, grandsons, Jeff (Brianne) McCloud, Scott (Heather) McCloud, Justin Skellett and granddaughter Joslynn Tellez, great-granddaughters, Kylie, Emma, and Maddison McCloud, great-grandson Miles McCloud, sisters Dolores Harman, Audrey (William) McLane and sisters-in-law Joan Jacob and Dorthy Jacob. Many nieces, nephews, and others mourn her death.
In addition to her husband Dennis of nearly 50 years, Mary was also preceded in death by parents Mary & Robert Jacob, brothers Norbert & Robert Jacob and nephew Mark Jacob.
Viewing will be held at Johnson Mortuary, 1415 1st Ave., from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 17th, and a service celebrating her life will be held at the same location on Saturday, September 18th, at 2:00 p.m. Her great friend of 41 years and former pastor, Rev. Ray Thomas, now of Festus, Missouri will officiate with interment immediately following in the Faith Mausoleum at Desert Lawn Memorial Park. Music will be provided by the Moore Sisters Trio and Regina Thomas Cook. Pallbearers will be Justin Skellett, Eugene Payne, John Watson, Jeff McCloud, Scott McCloud and Russell McCloud, a fitting tribute as Mary lived for her family.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to Hospice of Yuma, 1824 S. 8th Ave. Yuma, AZ 85364 or The Rotary Foundation, 14280 Collections Center Drive Chicago, IL 60693.
