Born Ella L. Dulin at Cisco, Ritchie County, she was the first of 5 children of William T (Tecumseh) and Sarah Elizabeth Wiblin DULIN. She always used the name "Luvernia", and her given name (Ella) was only discovered on her birth record in May 2002 research.
She married Granville Nathan THORNTON on 23 May 1894 at Parkersburg. Her first child, Lauretta, died tragically in childhood. Children Lloyd Nathan, Roy Maxwell, Helen Elizabeth, Grace Juanita, and Orin Dulin Thornton grew to adulthood. She had 11 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild at the time of her death, aged 76 years and 24 days.
