From the Wayne County News: Thursday, November 13th, 1969Auto Accident Claims Life of Local MinisterThe Rev. Winfred E. Calhoun, 46, died Thursday at a Laurel hospital of injuries received in an automobile accident. Services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday from the Waynesboro Southern Methodist Church. The Revs. Sharp and Curtis Cain assisted the Rev. Leon Wilson, pastor. Burial was in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery with Freeman Funeral Home of Waynesboro directing. A native of Covington County Mississippi, Calhoun had lived in Wayne County 19 years and was a former pastor of Clara United Methodist Church. He had served as pastor of Waynesboro Southern Methodist Church and returned to Waynesboro in 1968 from Oxford, where he had served as pastor of the Southern Methodist Church. He was a member of the board of directors of Southern Methodist College in Orangeburg, S.C. and was a member of Waynesboro Southern Methodist Church. He was a Mason. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mary Dyess Calhoun of Waynesboro, two sons, David Calhoun and Jimmy Calhoun both of Waynesboro, a foster son Dale Dossett of San Francisco, Calif., a daughter Miss Linda Calhoun of Waynesboro, four brothers, Harold Calhoun of Bassfield, James Calhoun of Waynesboro, Kenneth Calhoun of Buckatunna, and Lavern Calhoun of Mobile, two sisters, Mrs. Joyce Brewer of Mobile, and Mrs. Marylyn Temple of Laurel.
