A beautiful and gracious woman, Mary was born March 30, 1912, in Salem, Oregon to Sarah Anne and Richard Joseph Hackett. She lived on her parents farm in Lincoln, attending the one room Lincoln Grade School and Salem High School. She completed cosmetology school after high school graduation. On May 26, 1935, she married John Henry Miller of Salem. They lived in Sacramento and Redding, California where their daughter, JoAnn Gayle was born in 1942. After John's Navy service they moved to Salem and then Portland in 1947. Mary was a homemaker and member of various garden clubs. In 1961 Mary & John built a home on the Windsor Century Farm in West Salem and lived there until moving to Salemtowne. After John's death, Mary moved to Tigard, Oregon to live with her daughter and son-in-law until her passing. Mary is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, JoAnn and Dale F. Evans of Tigard; grandson and wife, Michael and Angie Evans and her great grandchildren, Emily & Ethan Evans of Gresham. A Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 11, 2010, at Spring Valley Presbyterian Church, Zena, OR. Memorial contributions may be made to Spring Valley Presbyterian Church in c/o Hank Cherry, 6510 Wallace Rd NW, Salem, OR 97304.
