Johnnie Long
Johnnie Long , 73, of Muscatine, died Saturday, Dec. 31, 1988, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City. Born June 25, 1915, at Wyman, he was the son of John and Emma Hesser Long. He married Wilma Martin Oct. 29, 1940, at Unionville, Mo. She preceded him in death. He had been a farm hand in the Columbus Junction area and was a security guard at Keller Ladder Co., Muscatine. He was an Army veteran during World War II, serving in the Battle of the Bulge, Normandy Invasion, and the European Theater. He received the purple heart and five bronze campaign stars. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Linda (Charles) Brown Jr., Letts, Mrs. Marjorie (Allen) McGowan, Nichols, and Mrs. Joy (Donald) Smith, Muscatine; two sons, Alvin Long and Gary Long, both of Muscatine; two brothers, Kenneth Long, Laquinta, Calif., and Raymond Long, Long Beach, Calif.; one sister, Mary Seeger; 20 grandchildren; and eight greatgrandchildren.Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. today at the Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home, Columbus Junction. The service for Mr. Long will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Stacy- Lewis Funeral Home, Columbus Junction. Burial will be in Beauchamp Cemetery.
