Mr. Hassinger served in the Navy as a captain's talker in the Pacific during World War II. His destroyer,the U.S.S. Brown, was attacked by Japanese kamikaze pilots while performing picket duty during the battle of Okinawa in 1945.
He was a founding member of the South Hills Church of the Nazarene. He was a gifted musician and sang tenor.
His family moved to Pittsburgh, Pa. in 1921 and he retired from the U.S. Postal service in 1978. He then moved to Massachusetts after his retirement.
