Carl R. Nelson, age 84, of Batavia, passed away on Friday, October 12, 2001 at Delnor-Community Hospital in Geneva. He was born August 10, 1917 in Batavia, the son of Carl A. and Mae J. (nee Hanosh) Nelson.
Carl attended the Batavia High School through his junior year. Because of health problems, he was not able to complete his high school education and graduate with his fellow students. As a young man, he enjoyed scouting and was a member of Boy Scout Troop #6. Carl was a railroad enthusiast, collecting model trains and railroad artifacts. He also was a stamp collector. He was an avid Chicago White Sox fan. Because of his health, he was confined to his home, where he was blessed throughout the years with visits and support from many dear friends and loving health care by his family, of which, made it possible to remain in the home of his birth. Although friends and family supported Carl throughout his lifetime, with love and care, he in turn would uplift everyone with his deep belief in God and positive outlook on life. He will be dearly missed. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Batavia.
He is survived by four sisters, Lorraine Peddy, Margaret Urich, Marion Blakesley, all of Batavia and Madelyn Bast of Tempe, Arizona; and many nieces and nephews.
