The son of Simon Hayn and Maria Anna Ludwig, Valentine was born in Laudenbach on the Main, Bavaria, Germany. This area is located near Miltenberg, Germany.

Valentine and his family came to the United States in Oct 1880. They sailed from Bremerhaven, Germany on board the Koln and arrived in Baltimore, Maryland. The Hayns settled in Calhoun County, Illinois.

Valentine married Katie Klunk on 11 Feb 1904 in Calhoun County. They were the parents of 4 children.

At the time of his death, Valentine was 81 years, 7 months and 2 days old. He was buried on 19 Jun 1954 and was preceded in death by his wife, Katie, who passed away in 1932.

Kampsville- Valentine S. Hayn, 81 will be buried in rites Saturday at 9 a.m. in St. Anselm's Church, here. The Rev. John Ratchford will officiate and interment will be in Parish Cemetery.
Hayn, retired barber and jeweler, died Wednesday in Alton Memorial Hospital. A son of Mr. and Mrs. Simon Hayn, born in Germany, Mr. Hayn come to this country as a youth. He had lived in Calhoun County for 74 years.
In 1904 he was married to Kate Klunk of Calhoun County who died in 1932. Mr Hayn is survived by four sons, Al, Carl, Eddie, and Valentine Jr., all of here.
