Services were 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 17, at First Baptist Church of Basehor, Kan. Burial was in Bonner Springs Cemetery under the direction of Alden-Harrington Funeral Home in Bonner Springs, Kan. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the First Baptist Church of Basehor.
Visitation was 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
William L. "Bill" Whipple, 70, Basehor, Kan., was born April 8, 1940, in Plad. He died Sept. 12, 2010, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center, Merriam, Kan.
He moved to the Bonner Springs area in 1958. He worked for Certain-Teed Insulation in Fairfax as a forklift operator for 42 years, retiring in 2002.
He loved watching the T-Bones and had been a season ticket holder for the last five years. He especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren in their many activities as they grew up.
He was very social and looked forward to his weekly phone calls with all of his family.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Whipple in 1996, and his second wife, Gayle Whipple in 2007.
Survivors include two sons: Chuck and wife, Laura Whipple, Bonner Springs, Kan., and Martin and wife, Sheri Whipple, Olathe, Kan.; one daughter, Malissa Haley, Pittsburg; four brothers: Fred, Henry, Leonard and Harvey Whipple; eight grandchildren: Molly, Jenny, Alex, Mandy, Marissa, Tina, Yvette and Tiffany; and five great-grandchildren.
