Wife of Wilhelm Heinrich Ahrendt who arrived in the U.S. aboard the sailing vessel Prinz Albert which left Hamburg and arrived in NY on Aug 27, 1865. They brought a young toddler and an infant son with them and had one additional child in the U.S.

Dorothea predeceased her husband. She died at 1:30 am on Dec 30 1882 at age 50 from a femoral hernia operation and had been ill for four days prior to her death. At the time of her death the family were living at 20th St and California Avenue in Chicago. Her death cert was under 'Doris Ahrendt' but her given name was Dorothea.

The couple had three sons, two born in Prussia and one in the U.S.:
William John Ahrendt (originally Wilhelm Johannes Ahrendt) born 30 May 1863 died 7 Mar 1933 Redwood City, San Francisco Co CA. William married 12 June 1902 in Garfield Co. CO, a widow with two children, Mary Louise (Rose) Mansheim b. 17 Jan 1881. Together they raised the two children and had 6 additional children, but later divorced and she remarried. He did not. He died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head and was cremated with ashes taken by his son James Harold Ahrendt and scattered in the Little Arkansas River in Salida, CO. At the time of his death he was living at 1110A Lake St, San Francisco, CA with his married son James Harold Ahrendt and wife and had been working as an electrician and furnace repairman.

Their second son Karl Ahrendt was an infant aboard the sailing vessel in 1865. While listed as 'Karl', it is believed he had several names and his middle or actual first name is not known. I have been unable to find a record of what happened to him.

Third son was Henry Richard Ahrendt Sr b.ca. 1871 Chicago, Cook Co. who married ca. 1891 Mary Foley b. 30 Aug 1872 Tipperary, Cork, Ireland. The couple had seven children. They later divorced (family said due to spousal abuse). At one time Henry Richard Ahrendt listed his occupation as a foreman of wagon drivers. Family said he was a real teamster and started a local Chicago trucking company in partnership with his son Henry Richard Ahrendt Jr called Henry Ahrendt & Sons. Family said he bought and sold some buildings throughout the 1920's until they bought a large 3 flat with tavern out front on W. Cermak Rd in Chicago. They made money selling liquor through the tavern. They were a strong Catholic family and his divorced wife Mary (Foley) Ahrendt never remarried but went eventually to live with a daughter. Their children: Henry 'Hank' Richard Ahrendt Jr b. 31 Jan 1893, Doris Ahrendt 1895, Richard John Ahrendt 1899, Evelyn Ahrendt 1902, Irene Ahrendt 1903, George William Ahrendt Apr 25 1908 and Dorothea Ahrendt 24 June 1910.
