Born in Bennington on July 25, 1936, he was the son of Edward A. and Grace (Shepard) Barber.
He was a 1954 graduate of North Bennington High School.
Mr. Barber was a U.S. Navy veteran and served during the Korean conflict.
He married the former Patricia Ann Buckbee Oct. 16, 1959, in Bennington.
He was employed at various factories and retail stores in the area.
Mr. Barber was a life member of North Bennington Fire Department and a member of American Legion Post 13 and Paran Recreations.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, flower gardening, crocheting, reading and studying American history.
Survivors include his wife of North Bennington; a daughter, Daphne Pratt of Hammondsport, N.Y.; three sons, Arthur, Jacob, both of North Bennington, and Joseph Barber of Shaftsbury; two grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by a sister, Sandra Barber.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, at the funeral home.
Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery in North Bennington.
